As you know The Venture Active Family is having a fundraiser for domestic abuse survivors coming up this February. So I thought this would be the perfect time to talk about one of my favorite self-defense arts Krav Maga.
What is Krav Maga?
Krav Maga isn’t just a fun word to say but it is also a form of military self-defense developed for the Israel Defense Forces. It is a combination of all forms of fighting such as wrestling, boxing, aikido, karate, judo, and realistic fight training. The technique may sound intimidating but it is meant to be a practical form of fighting inviting any shape, size, and age to participate.
What Techniques Are Implemented in Krav Maga?
Krav maga is a fighting technique that is unlike all others it relies on your instinctual reflexes when attacked so you can listen to what your body is telling you. It makes you more aware of your surroundings, so you can prepare yourself for a potentially dangerous situation. There are many techniques in which a real-life attack is simulated, such as how to disarm your attacker, breaking a chokehold, and getting away from a dangerous person. Especially in today’s climate, we have every reason to be on high alert when we go out.
Why is Self-Defense Important?
Self-Defense is so important for those who are independent and especially for women, in which we can potentially face many dangerous situations because we may appear vulnerable. It is a way to gain confidence in who you are as a person, and women of all ages can benefit from taking a self-defense class. It gives you the confidence that you will know what to do if a situation ever occurs, and it brings more awareness to the people who are around you. Self-defense isn’t just something to do it’s a way of thinking and a way to gain more independence in the knowledge that you can take care of yourself, that you can handle whatever is to come your way.
This supports the subject of our extraordinary fundraiser coming up this February, Stronger Together. A fundraiser to support our domestic violence survivors camp, in which these survivors will have a full support system of wonderful women, therapists, and engage in activities to grow their self-confidence. Join us on February 6th for this lifechanging event with guest speakers, drinks, and raffles!
